THE HIGHEST HONOUR — STEPHEN WOJTOWICZ

There are awards you hope for.

There are awards you work towards.

And then there are honours that arrive because a lifetime of service has spoken for itself.

On Monday evening, Stephen Wojtowicz was awarded Life Membership of the Goldfields Football League.

\Steve was absolutely speechless. For anyone who knows him, perhaps that says everything.

For more than 40 years, Steve has given an extraordinary amount of himself to football across the Goldfields — quietly, reliably and without ever needing to be the centre of attention.

His service has stretched far beyond the Boulder City Football Club. He has served on the GFL Board of Directors, managed GFL umpires, worked extensively with representative football, and served numerous terms on the GFL Commission, including as Vice Chairman and Chairman. And behind all those titles is the Steve Wojtowicz so many people know.

Reliable. Passionate. Considerate. Generous. Kind.

A bloke who simply turns up.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Steve was made a Life Member of the Boulder City Football Club in 2000.

Then, in 2023, came a moment he thought might never be bettered when his son Ashley became Boulder City Life Member No.100. For a family that has given so much to grassroots football, that was incredibly special. But now Dad has another badge beside his name.

GFL LIFE MEMBER.

Even the annual Wojtowicz–Turner Perpetual Trophy, contested between Boulder and Mines, stands as an enduring acknowledgement of Steve’s contribution to Goldfields football.

And perhaps the magnitude of Monday night’s honour is best understood by this:

GFL Life Membership is rare.

• It is not awarded for one great season.

• It is not awarded for one position held.

• It recognises something much greater —

A LIFETIME.

• A lifetime of turning up.

• A lifetime of helping.

• A lifetime of putting the game and its people first.

From a young Tiger footballer to one of the most respected servants of Goldfields football, the journey has been remarkable. Stephen Wojtowicz — Boulder City Life Member.
